DESCRIPTION:Please join us on September 11 at the Carson Valley Museum & Cultural Center as Historian Wayne Scarpaci speaks on “The Iron Horses of Nevada: an Overview of the Historical Railroads of Nevada.”  As well as being traversed by three of the largest trans-continental railroads\, the Silver State was home to many short line railroads built to support Nevada’s mining booms.  Most of these lines have disappeared into the sands of time along with the mines and towns they once served.\nThis presentation will be accompanied by an exhibit of original railroad art by the speaker; many of which have never before been shown publicly.  The art exhibit “Iron Horses” runs from September 8th through the 17th with a special Meet the Artist reception on Saturday\, September 13 from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m.\nDoors Open at 6:00 p.m. Lecture Begins at 6:30 p.m.\n$5.00 at the door.  Free Admission to Alpine\, Dayton\, Smith Valley\, and DCHS Historical Society members.\nDon’t forget!  Each time you visit us at our Heritage Lecture in 2025 you earn a chance to win a $100 gift certificate from our bookstore.  The more Heritage Lectures you attend\, the greater your chances of winning!  The drawing will be held on Thursday\, November 13\, 2025.  Need not be present to win.\n  \n
